Personal training and fitness coaching individuals since 2002.

  • 2 years experience in a physical therapy setting.
  • 4 years experience in public health education prior to the fitness and rehabilitation industry.
  • Low clients numbers; Quality Over Quantity.

Previously, I was an Assistant Tai Chi/Qigong Instructor at the Lau Kune Do Temple of Martial Arts in Long Beach, CA. I have studied yoga, kung fu and aikido at various levels since 1989. My yoga teaching experience has been in a group gym setting and have continued to learn the functional kinesthetics of yoga.

As a CHEK Exercise Coach, my practice has an emphasis on thorough assessments, corrective exercise, postural alignment and post-rehabilitation techniques for the low back and core. The philosophy is to work from the deepest internal core strength and progress to power out through the extremities! My studying at the CHEK Institute was a week long, 40 hour, hands-on intensive training with 20 other professionals which included fitness trainers, chiropractors, physical therapists and massage therapists from all over the world. (This is not your typical personal trainer certification which usually entails reading the fitness organization’s personal trainer book and taking a multiple choice exam in a room with 300+ trainers.) This is a fully comprehensive fitness and health educational institute driven by getting results for clients.

Other CHEK Institute completed courses: Scientific Core Conditioning, Scientific Back Training, Program Design, Equal But Not the Same (fitness training for females), Advanced Program Design and Scientific Shoulder Training

On a personal note, I live in Long Beach, CA in the Bluff Heights neighborhood with my wonderous and magical wife, Kim, and my creative and comedic daughter, Esme.  And we have a cat, Thiago (pronounced Chee-ah-go ; ) who’s part Bangel breed…we didn’t know what we were getting involved in…like a toddler with fur and four legs.  Seriously.

On my free time(?) I like to backpack the Sierra mountains, camp in Joshua Tree Nat’l Park with friends and family, practice my tai chi-qigong, go on neighborhood and beach walks…and…watch some TV (but only on the weekends) like Formula 1 races (and tech talk), IndyCar, action/adventure shows, thriller spy spec-ops shows and documentaries.  Life is pretty simple these days, raising a kiddo and running a business…just keeping things “slow is smooth and smooth is fast”…and gosh darn it does go fast!  Working on neurologically, mentally, heart-centered-ly learning how to slow it all down.  There are ideas, theories and practices out there, so I’m working on that for a more “here and now” form of adventure.  “This is it, right here, right now.”  ; )
